Judge's Critique:
I see sunflowers in the foreground, people in the mid-ground, and the French flag in the background framed by the buildings which are framed by the trees. There is a potential energy in the image that is broken (crushed) by the fence separating the people from the sunflowers. The photographer is on the right track but seems to have missed the mark by trying to include too much and too wide. What is the photographer trying to express? Spring in Paris of course. Are the flowers the important element? The People? The buildings with the flag? Just because the photographer is there in spring doesn’t mean the photograph conveys that time of the year. Sunflowers remind me of summer.
