  • DESCRIPTION AND SETTINGS : I was doing a setup to shoot some marbles, and this beetle show up uninvited. So I shot him. He looked like he was trying to push the marble so I named him Samson.
  • Judge's Critique: Colors are vibrant. The beetle is the anomaly in the photograph, in more than one way. It is a creature on colorful manmade materials, and its texture is inconsistent with the rest of the image. Anomalies are good things. They add interest. Processing, depth of field, and composition seem appropriate. The color flow of the background is appropriate. One observation (I did not deduct points for this), it would have been interesting to see the Sampson Beetle pushing the marble uphill. This would have emphasized his perceived named implied strength.
