  • DESCRIPTION AND SETTINGS : This is a picture of a bolt going through a railroad rail. I was drawn by the three elements in the image, a steel rail with the bolt and washer, a stone which was there, and the rugged railroad tie below. Different textures can be seen in the three elements.

  • Judge's Critique: This image while a good idea, falls a bit short in my view.  There are too many elements vying for the viewer’s attention.  In my view, if the stone was removed and if the steel was a bit closer, I would have scored it higher for the texture category.  Other’s may disagree, but that is my impression.  However, the image is very well done technically which is to the photographer’s credit.
