The Kendall  Camera Club hosts a Cable TV Series

On Saturday, September 7th, 1991, the Kendall Camera Club took to the air waves!

Club members Ken Blye and Fred Kong teamed up and co-hosted the first in a series of half-hour television programs titled "EXPLORING PHOTOGRAPHY". The show was telecast on Cable-TAP, channel 35 at 8:30 PM .

The series was presented by the Kendall Camera Club with the co-operation of Cable-TAP, a division of WLRN-TV and produced and directed by Ken and Fred.

During their first program, Ken and Fred interviewed nature photographer and environmentalist Helen Longest. They also traveled to the Anhinga Trail where they interviewed Julius Sirilo.

The second program in the series took them to Parrot Jungle where they filmed Club members and students in a "Field Experience" photography class.

For months Ken and Fred went slogging through Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties interviewing photographers and filming at interesting locations. Their goal was not only to teach photography, but to illustrate the great photo opportunities in our own back yard.

Shooting locations included: the Anhinga Trail in Everglades National Park, the Homestead Balloon Race and Rodeo, Parrot Jungle, Butterfly World and Watson Island.

Fred Kong has been a continuous KCC member since 1983. He held the prestigious position of Club President and is informally known as the Club's historian. He has placed 1st in numerous "A" level competitions and has been the recipient several times over of the coveted "Billy Marlow Nature" Award.

Ken Blye served as Club President and Director in the 1990's.  He was Dean of Miami Dade Community College at the time. An outstanding photographer, his photographs often placed in the "Excellent" category.

With sadness ...

July 5, 1992 - the Club bid farewell to longtime member and past President, Billy Marlow. An outstanding photographer and nature lover, Billy's invaluable contribution to the Club and his love for photography is still remembered today. In his memory, the Club created the annual - Billy Marlow Nature Award.

June 12, 1998 - the Kendall Camera Club lost its distinguished, honorary member, Julius Sirilo. Since the Club's inception, scores of members benefited from his photographic tutelage. Those who participated, will never forget his summer trips to Maine guiding them through picturesque seaport towns, lighthouses, fishing villages and lobster dinners. Julius gave generously of us time and talent.
