  • DESCRIPTION AND SETTINGS : This image was taken on a recent trip to Vero Beach. This young mother and her son caught my eye as the frolicked on the beach at the water's edge. It looked like the mother was introducing the timid child to the wonders of the ocean for the first time. The little boy was not too sure what to make of the frothy ocean tickling his feet. I like the way the woman is pointing at the water and talking to the child. This scene caught my eye because its simplicity with just the mother and son in the huge panorama of the beach, ocean and clouds. I like all the negative space which draws emphasis the main subjects.
  • Judge's Critique: Vero Beach Day: Wide angle? Yes. Is it Simply stated? Yes. There is a good leading line to the people in the scene. Are the people the subject, or are the water, sand, and shoreline the subject? It seems the image may be refined by composing the people in the scene larger while maintaining the wide-angle challenge.
