DESCRIPTION AND SETTINGS :
I took this picture in the backyard of my mom's house out in the country in Panama. On any given day, at least 10 different kinds of birds will fly by or stop by. My mother had thrown away some old bread and the visitors arrived. I was ready and on this day. This daring, pretty bird plucked up some courage and came in for a bite. The mocking birds make it very clear that this is their turf, so most of the other birds are wary of getting too close. I don't know what kind of bird this is, so because of its color, I chose to just call it tropical bird.

Judge's Critique:
Tropical Bird #4: Nice action shot. Look close, and you will see that the eye is soft. Eyes should be tack sharp. You did get the all-critical catch light, though. The bread was extremely bright, and there were other elements that did not add to the image. See the side-by-side visual critique. Notice how I eliminated the unnecessary so the necessary can speak? I also sharpened the image to demonstrate how important the focus is. What do you think?
