I was trying to think how to best describe what the person that suggest this theme was after (Thanks, Sean Toler, from our Facebook group) and after reading his suggestion and the subsequent comments, I thought it was easier to let Sean and Marilyn tell their story!

This week your theme is ‘Abandonment’ so use #dPSAbandonment in your posts!

dPS Weekly Photo Challenge – Abandonment

Clever, huh! (But for those using a reader, here’s that transcript!)

I like this. Lately I’ve been photographing things left on the sidewalk or in the street. Aside from LOTS of face masks, there are other interesting things.once you start taking notice of them it’s difficult not to. I’ve been photographing abandoned buildings and other things for over a decade now. I was even fortunate enough to have a book published with some of my abandonment photos. I feel like even if they can’t be preserved physically, at least I am able to preserve some of them digitally through my photos. That’s impressive and interesting. So far, all of mine are cellphone photos. And they’re things that are much smaller – they’re things like a little girl’s bicycle, a braid of hair, a small toy, a bright orange golf ball… I want to capture the transience of everyday things that people drop, loose, or put things out for others to take for free. But I can see that abandoned sites can yield some very interesting photos. I just looked at your website, and some of those old and abandoned building photos are really evocative.

You can photograph whatever you feel has been abandoned for this assignment, here are a handful of mine from a while back (my project was called “Stuff stuck in stuff”)
