Back Button Focus: What Is It and Why Should You Try It?

The post Back Button Focus: What Is It and Why Should You Try It? appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by Simon Ringsmuth. What camera operation could be more simple than pressing the shutter button to trigger the focusing mechanism, and then taking a picture? There’s not much to it, really: you look through the viewfinder (or at the LCD screen on the back of the camera), press a button with your index finger, wait for the camera to focus, and voilà! You’ve got a photo. Of course, consistently nailing the focus – so that your photos turn out sharp, especially when dealing with a variety of subjects – can be a challenge. Stop Scrolling Through Your Lightroom Panels

Instead, jump straight to the panel you want to work in. Here’s how: Press Command-1 (PC: Ctrl-1) to jump to the top panel in your right side panels (in the Develop module, that would be the Basic panel. In the Library module, that would be Quick Develop if you’re using “LR Classic”). Command-2 (PC: Ctrl-2) for the Tone Curve panel. Command-3 (PC: Ctrl-3) for the Color MIxer panel. Command-4 (PC: Ctrl-4) for the Color Grading panel. …and so on, because the panel keyboard shortcuts correspond to the order your panels are in, from top to bottom (I mention that because you can change the order of panels – I covered that in one of my recent Video Tip Tuesday). BONUS TIP:...🙂

Ethics and Responsibilities for Landscape Photographers

The post Ethics and Responsibilities for Landscape Photographers appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by John McIntire. It is hardly questionable that landscape photography is both rewarding and fun. The whole process – from planning and researching an outing to finally producing a completed image of an exquisite vista – can be so fulfilling it’s easy to see why it is such a popular genre. Unfortunately, there are costs to this popularity. Though most landscape photographers identify as environmentally minded, the sheer number of visitors to some locations can cause adverse effects – even despite the best intentions. That said, there are a few things you can look out for and practices you can take up to help ensure...Moss in Iceland takes decades to grow but moments to permanently destroy.

Mac Ventura Bug Affecting Droplets

While not something I do a lot, there are a few situations where I use a droplet as part of my export process from Lightroom Classic (LrC). A droplet is a way to take a Photoshop action and make it an executable file that lives outside of Photoshop but allows you to drag and drop photos onto the droplet to run them through the action. Using them as part of the Export process from Lightroom Classic allows provides an easy way to drag and drop all the exported copies through the droplet and whatever action it contains.
