Seven-tenths of our planet is covered by water. For many nature photographers, it’s instinctive to want to explore what images lie beneath the water. That intrigue set me on a course to explore the world’s oceans. Here’s what I’ve learned about underwater photography along the way. I approached this photograph as a conventional landscape, so I knew I needed a strong foreground element (the anemones) and an environment to create context (the kelp forest). I made sure I had enough depth of field for the scene and a shutter speed fast enough to keep the swaying kelp sharp before dialing up my lights a bit to add some pop to the foreground and reduce the shadows. Where Did My Colors Go?...Photo of kelp and a few small fish

The post Long-Exposure Landscape Photography: A Step-By-Step Guide appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by Tim Gilbreath. The long-exposure technique is the secret sauce for many professional landscape photographers. With a well-executed long-exposure approach, a normally static and bland landscape scene comes alive. Surf on a beach transforms into a swirling, cloud-like mass, while grasses flowing in the wind morph into a single, beautiful entity. Obviously, not every great landscape shot uses a long exposure – but if you can add this technique to your arsenal, you’ll be virtually unstoppable. That’s why, in this article, I share everything you need to know for well-exposed, well-composed, stunning long-exposure landscape photography. Specifically, I outline an 8-step plan for outstanding results,...Long-exposure landscape photography

Before we get to today’s tutorial: When I return from a trip or a workshop, I share the story and my images from the trip using Adobe Express (formerly called “Adobe Spark”). I think it’s the absolute best way to share your story – it’s super easy and free (here’s an example from my recent trip to Tuscany: https://t.co/y6TbPitfEFhttps://t.co/y6TbPitfEF). Anyway, I just did an online course on how to build one of these Adobe Express pages yourself from scratch. here’s the link to the course: https://members.kelbyone.com/course/scott-kelby-adobe-express/ Setting Up Lightroom To Suit The Way You Work One of my favorite things about Lightroom is how many options there are to set up Lightroom to suit the way you work. The same holds true for the light that appears just before the sun sets in the evening. Both are special and highly revered for landscape and wildlife photography. Regardless of the horizon that’s illuminated, the light is obvious and distinct. This greatly contributes to the fact landscape photographers love to exploit it. If you've ever found yourself posting a photo in which you've masterfully designed your shadows, created asymmetrical balance, and selected a brilliant color palette just to see it wildly out-performed by a reel of a 20-year-old aimlessly walking down a sidewalk and spiraled into complete despair, then this is for you.
