The post dPS Weekly Photo Challenge – Negative Space appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by Sime. We’ve had a crack at this previously, but it was a while ago and it’s a brand new day, so why not. What IS ‘negative space’ in photography? Very basically it’s using the open space in an image to draw focus to the subject – your eyes pretty much can’t help but be drawn from the nothingness to the subject. This week your challenge comes from Sharon Williams a member of our Facebook Group (you should join!) …and after you join you should suggest a challenge (or suggest one in the comments under this post if you don’t do the Facebook...dPS Weekly Photo Challenge – Negative Space

So, can the 28-70mm f/2L take the place of the 85mm f/1.2L, or does it still hold a special place all its own? [ Read More ]Original link(Originally posted by Alex Cooke)

BEFORE WE KICK THIS TIP OFF: Today over on my scottkelby.com blog I released my 16th annual “Holiday Photography Gear Guide,” which is featured each year as the cover article from Photoshop User magazine. Here’s the link if you’re looking for some cool gift ideas. OK, on to today’s tip: This is one of those feature that might overlook but as simple as it is, it can be a big time/frustration saver. A 24-70mm f/2.8 is the bread and butter lens for a huge range of photographers and filmmakers, offering a wide maximum aperture in tandem with some of the most commonly used focal lengths. Nonetheless, such lenses are rarely cheap. Samyang's 24-70mm f/2.8 AF Zoom bucks that trend, however, making it quite the interesting option for a lot of creatives, and this great video review takes a look at the image quality and performance you can expect from it in practice. Everyone has a favorite lens. It’s usually in a focal length that matches the way the photographer sees in his or her mind’s eye. We’ve heard of studies that show a human’s vision to be roughly equivalent to a 40mm lens on a full-frame DSLR, but we all focus on things within our field of vision a little differently. Some see in 20mm, and some see in 200mm. In addition to everyone “seeing” in a certain focal length, many of what we think of as traditional nature subjects seem to lend themselves to a particular range. At the confluence of these two phenomena is a lens that has become known as a workhorse for nature pros: the 70-200mm. Of course, we’re...Image of the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM

Perhaps no type of lens generates more admiration, envy, and fighting than a wide-aperture 85mm lens. As the classic portrait focal length, such lenses often carry their respective manufacturer's best technology, offering that shallow depth of field and buttery bokeh so many photographers crave. This fantastic video takes a look at seven of the sharpest such lenses out there and which comes out on top. [ Read More ]Original link(Originally posted by Alex Cooke)

Gimbals are now as much of a consumer item as they are a high-end professional one, which means far more videographers are using them. Infrared photography can be a wonderful new avenue to explore and can really get the creative juices flowing. It can also produce some otherworldly and beautiful images.
