Photo By Beth Baker Today’s Photo of the Day is “Solitude” by Beth Baker. Location: Munising, Michigan. “It’s not an epic or iconic shot, but it’s still my favorite from last year,” say Baker. “Driving along a stretch of rural road in the Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan’s upper peninsula, you can occasional spot a colorful maple tree growing amongst the taller pine trees. This little tree on a foggy morning had me hitting the brakes and pulling over to photograph the dreamy scene.” Canon 5D Mark IV, Canon EF 24-105mm L. Exposure: 0.4 sec., f/11, ISO 100. Above: My co-instructor, Mimo Meidany, and me standing during a scouting trip before the workshop, standing out in the Tuscan dirt. There’s worse dirt to stand in.  Greetings from the Atlanta airport (a delayed flight had me missing my connection back home last night from Boston, so I chose to come halfway home – my flight’s boarding in 20 minutes), but I’m back from my travel photography workshop in the gorgeous Tuscany region of Italy. Gorgeous doesn’t begin to describe it.  I don’t have images to share yet (beyond that shot from Jason above) because we had one heck of a busy week, but man, was it a fantastic one! Great weather the entire time; had an absolutely wonderful group of people with...🙂

The vast majority of beginning photographers and/or those brand new to a never-visited location often fall victim to what I label “The First Zebra Syndrome.” The First Zebra Syndrome is a term I coined after leading numerous safaris to the Serengeti in Tanzania. On three of my five annual safaris, we start with a warm-up day in Arusha National Park. It’s home to many birds and we use them as subjects to apply the concepts I teach about flash during...Capturing images that tell a story
