Glyn Dewis looks at a new app that can reduce camera shake and allow you to shoot incredible landscapes and long exposures on your iPhone without a tripod. From the creators of ReeXpose comes Reeheld. It apparently uses AI stabilization (something we are all very aware of at the moment) to create stunning handheld images. Today’s Photo of the Day is “Death Valley Rains” by Harry Lichtman. Location: Death Valley National Park, California. Rains are pretty rare in Death Valley, occurring about 20 days per year,” explains Lichtman. “I was fortunate to be among the swirling sands during one of these events. Dry and wet sand created different colors, and I use the classic curve of this dune to bring the viewer through the image to the rain beyond.” Want to get your images in the running for a Photo of the Day feature? Photo of the Day is chosen from various galleries, including Assignments, Galleries and Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the website homepage, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. To get your photos in the running, all...

Tripods are one of the most dependable pieces of gear an outdoor photographer can own. They provide steady, stabilizing support for your camera set-up to help you capture sharp shots no matter the lighting or wind conditions. In some ways, an adjustable tripod is like a trusted friend you can lean on for your most important landscape shoots. But not all tripods are created equal. Yes, you certainly might be able to save a few dollars by buying a less expensive tripod, but how long is it going to last, and will it be able to provide reliable stability? For outdoor photographers, durability and dependability are essential for our gear. This is why we highly recommend buying a high-quality, adjustable...Photo of adjustable tripod

Above: (L to R): That’s Mimo Meidany, Yours Truly, Fernando “Chicky Nando” Santos, and Jason “Obrigado” Stevens on the roof of the MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology) in beautiful Lisbon. Well, technically, as I write this, I’m in Atlanta waiting on the final leg of my trip home, so…I’m almost home. I’m feeling “home-ish.” We had an absolutely magical time visiting Porto, Portugal, and Lisbon with the kick-butt instructor team, along with a group of 12 talented, fun, totally awesome photographers, and it was a trip I’ll never forget. I don’t really have any photos to share. The plan was to work on them on my three flights home, but I was so tired from this week that I...😉

Over 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. So why don’t more water photos exist compared to the magnitude of “topographic” pics of mountains, hills, plains, valleys, craters, canyons and caves? Some reasons are obvious and I know my question is rhetorical. But given water’s abundance, allow this week’s tip to motivate you to focus on the wet side and flood memory cards with a monsoon of pixels. The fact that water is found in a myriad of forms helps precipitate options. It allows you to dip into a reservoir of research and form avalanches of new ideas to become a liquid part of your repertoire. Follow me down or upstream while I meander through a number of...

The post A Guide to Dynamic Landscape Photography appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by Guest Contributor. As a landscape photographer, I am constantly seeking out that perfect shot: an image that leaps from the screen and demands the viewer’s attention. However, producing compelling photos is hard. If you spend an hour or two on a photosharing website, you’ll note that a very small percentage of the shots stand out from the crowd. So how do you do it? How do you create the kind of images that really take the viewer’s breath away? There’s more than one approach here, but when it comes to landscape photography, I encourage you to strive for dynamic shots. And in this...Dynamic landscape photography

As patronizing as it sounds, wedding photography isn't simply a one size fits all style. Some photographers adopt an editorial style, some pose couples for most of the day, and others will be 100% reportage. That said, we can always be sure that some parts of the wedding must be candid, the events that we cannot control or manipulate. [ Read More ]Original link(Originally posted by Paul Waring)

Samyang, well known for many years for creating fantastically sharp and affordable manual focus lenses, has moved into creating autofocus options as well in recent years. Despite the addition of autofocus, their lenses remain competitively priced, which is what makes the AF 75mm f/1.8 for Fujifilm X Series mirrorless cameras so intriguing. This great video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice. [ Read More ]Original link(Originally posted by Alex Cooke)

The post 7 Tips for Gorgeous Window-Light Portraits appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by Mat Coker. Most portrait photographers shoot outdoors or in the studio, both of which come with problems. Outdoor portrait photography is heavily dependent on the weather and the quality of the light, while indoor studio portraits require significant space, not to mention money. Fortunately, there’s a fantastic alternative to both these approaches, and it’s what I discuss in this article: Window-light portraits. Window light is highly accessible, you can use it (for the most part) independent of the weather, and it’s more controllable than outdoor lighting. In this tutorial, I explain everything you need to know for beautiful results, including: How to pick...Window-light portrait photography

I have a very small office space, which I use for work and filming tutorials. For the filming part, I was looking for a compact lighting solution. Typical studio lights are often quite large and wouldn't have provided the versatility I needed. That's why I'm glad I got introduced to the Colbor CL60R, which I review in this article.
