I took this photo at a recent KCC field trip. I took the photo at an angle where the slice of lemon, the slice of cake, fork and rest of cake are on a diagonal line with the lemons on the background providing balance to the frame. I did not arrange the food, I just took the photo.

I took this photo at my cousin's brewery in Miami Shores. I had the beers backlit with a small LED light to make the beers glow.

Seasoned with Love explores flavor as a form of art. Photographed in natural light--I used spoons of varying sizes and symbolic handles, each filled with a different spice. Some spices spilled naturally, adding movement and texture. Cinnamon sticks, twine, and fresh green herbs frame the composition, bringing warmth, contrast, and balance.
Without prior experience in food photography, I focused on color and texture, letting the ingredients and light speak for themselves. This was harder than I thought it would be, but kind of fun putting it together.

Monochrome picture capturing cups ready to toast with wine, using a Canon EOS T6, 18-200 mm Sigma lens, focal Length 48 mm, shutter speed 1/8 sec, aperture f/5.6, ISO 400
This is an image of half of a $29.00 Pastrami Sandwich photographed at Michael’s Genuine in the Design District after I could only finish one half. It is not a studio production, but a real-life, in-the-moment food photograph, shot handheld, using available ambient light with no reflectors or lighting modifiers.

1/8 sec f/8.0 ISO 200; 18mm Taken by kitchen window. Used roses from my garden and Publix Neapolitan ice cream.
This image was styled and captured using natural light. The food was arranged to highlight contrast in texture and tone, with minimal props to maintain focus on the ingredients. A fresh tulip was included to add visual balance and softness to the overall composition.

This is my attempt to show food in an artistic fashion. I used golden hour sunlight to illuminate this image. I set up a card table in my yard and brought out a variety of vegetables to create various setups. I used a large cutting board and basket to facilitate the arrangements. I used LrC and Photoshop to enhance the colors of the veggies. There were some very bright and distracting highlights on the peppers that I removed in PS.
I used a light box to illuminate this setup from below. The grapefruit, orange and apple have intricate translucent patterns when they are sliced very thin and backlit. I was trying to capture those interesting patterns in this image. I made multiple arrangements of the fruit slices trying to come up with a pleasing composition. I like this one the best of what I came up with. The settings were f-2.8, 1/1600, ISO 500.
Make food the star of the image — fresh, styled, or captured in the moment of being enjoyed.
Suggestions:
Photograph ingredients or moments from the preparation process
If you don’t have access to lighting equipment, use natural light and simple reflectors for a soft, appetizing look
Enhance the scene with thoughtfully chosen utensils, fabrics, or backgrounds
Experiment with top-down perspectives or close-up/macro compositions for variety
Use shape and contrast to tell your story through outlines and dark spaces.
Suggestions:
Backlight your subject at sunrise/sunset for a crisp silhouette.
Use hard light to cast striking shadows on textured surfaces.
Look for geometric or repeating shadow patterns.
Try layering silhouettes in different planes of depth
