It is a misnomer to think that Black and White is the absence of Color. It is not!

Lots of photographers think that they can turn a color image into B&W with the mere click of a setting. Not true!

Not all images work as B&W. There is a lot of thought that goes into picking these images. This presentation will address these issues and explain the elements that are conducive to a great B&W image.

The presentation will also focus on the tools available allowing us to turn a color image into black and white as well as the following external factors:

The suitable light for a B&W photo;

The effects of harsh directional light;

Soft light under heavily textured cloudy skies;

The effect of fog;

Silhouettes;

The effects of uniform skies with no textures;

The effects of sidelight on heavily textured surfaces;

And … much more.
